Körper by Sasha Waltz is a contemporary dance performance that has been touring for over 15 years. During that time media and advertising has changed drastically. The challenge was to create a visual identity that captures the essence of the dance piece and present it accordingly, in the new digital landscape.
The performance piece has a very analyzing nature, visually dissecting and inspecting the human body. Therefore have I chosen to approach this project with a similar visual language. The typographic treatment is neutral, monospaced and rational, something you would find in old medical files. The animation/visual is a cel render of an abstract spine, fitting seamlessly into the identity. The abrupt movement reflects the pace of a part particularly, where the dancers recreate a spine out of plates.
The outcome of this project is a modern and refined visual identity that can not only be used in print, but also in digital. The final poster design can be used static as well as dynamic and can be expanded onto other abstract shapes that reflect the dance piece. Additionally, the identity functions in a portrait and a square format, allowing social media posts on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
